Crispa started with something I already knew personally: using a hair dryer with curly hair and having to adjust my wrist and arm to make the airflow work. Instead of assuming that this was just how the product was supposed to be used, I started looking at how my mother and friends with different hair textures used theirs too. The problem became clear. The conventional axial airflow was designed around one type of movement, while curly and textured hair often requires a different, more vertical motion.
The main change was to rotate the airflow so that it exits perpendicular to the main body of the device. This allowed the dryer to follow the movement people were already making rather than forcing the user to adjust their body around the product. I deliberately accepted a less compact form because, for this project, I cared more about comfort and control than making the dryer smaller.
Crispa is a hair dryer designed around the actual movements involved in caring for curly and textured hair. The ergonomic form and reoriented airflow make the interaction more comfortable and controlled. For me, the important part of this project was not just making a different hair dryer. It was recognising that when a product assumes everyone behaves the same way, the people who do not fit that assumption end up doing all the adapting.
